Canon IXUS 240 HS Review

The Canon IXUS 240 HS is a high-tech pocket camera with a BSI CMOS sensor, a touchscreen and Wi-Fi connectivity. It may look like an ordinary photo snapper yet it has one of the best features Canon has ever made this 2012. The tech specs is a way standard that proves the market that the quality can easily overcome by the quantity.

  • 16.1 -Megapixel HS CMOS Sensor
  • 5x Optical Zoom
  • Built in Wi-Fi
  • 3.2" Touch Panel LCD
  • 58 Scene Modes
  • Full HD Movie Recording

The IXUS 240 is made of quality materials which is good yet it has no extra effort on the designs that can make it stand from other canon cameras. The IXUS 240 HS is a relatively easy camera to use, as pretty much everything is taken care of automatically. Philippines price is:  18,498php and is available in silver, black, purple, blue and pink.

  • Digital Camera IXUS 240HS

  • Battery Charger CB-2LDE
  • Battery Pack NB-11L
  • Interface Cable IFC-400PCU
  • Software (CD-ROM)
  • *Memory Card is not included

Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the IXUS 240HS is rated at either 170 shots or three hours of playback between charges. Expanding its memory from 4GB to 16GB and still on the process of experimenting in reaching its maximum level. A full use of battery using video will last an hour.

The Canon IXUS 240 HS has a touch focus/shoot option which is on by default. To switch it off, press the icon at the right of the screen. This becomes a touch focus screen and will lock on to the subject where you touched. Other focus modes can be found in the function menu for landscape focusing, macro and landscape/portrait which is the standard setting. Calibration of the screen isn't all too impressive and needs a touch pen which come in the box yet leave unnoticeable for being too small and attached to camera wrist strap. You have to use your finger, but the touch focus will miss smaller subjects. Macro focusing is impressive and in my test tests we got near to point blank range. At this range the image quality suffers immensely with a lot of drop off from near the center of the frame.

Things to notice:

It has a confusing menu system, poorly implemented Wi-Fi and unresponsive touch screen because the resistive touchscreen lacks both precision and sensitivity yet it has these great use for styling, effects, fast shutter response and great in low lights; -and above all it's a pocket-sized that you can bring with you anywhere and everywhere without any hassle.

Rating: 3.5/5

IXUS 240 is a surprise to the market but because of its features imperfections like battery life, sensitivity and responsiveness it ended up on a 3.5 stars.

The camera could also benefit from an interface that makes logging on to a wireless access point less of a tearful experience. I'm not actually a camera guy but I do love taking pictures and Canon won my heart by the quality of camera that they make like their sensor that go beyond compare to other cameras however there are many more great digital cameras out there yet still CANON nailed the market.
