Custom URL for Google Plus page: Claim it now!
Did you claim your custom Google+ page URL yet? Well, Google Plus has begun to distribute them to the masses, and businesses are benefiting first. Lucky that we are one of the many who received these limited set of custom URL for verified profiles and pages.
Now if you're having a hard time remembering your too-long addresses which can somehow affect your followers in finding your G+ page. Custom URLs give an assurance to make sharing easier as they're shorter and line up with the name of your entity. This is a good way that even your URL can be a good branding too.
So without further ado, before you can get a custom URL, your account needs to be in good standing and meet the following requirements which being stated as follows:
Eligibility for People:
>Ten or more followers
>Your account is 30 days old or more
>A profile photo
Indeed a no sweat requirements but you just have to wait for the time span needed at the same time invite your friends to achieved a specific number of followers.
Eligibility for Local Google+ pages: Must be a verified local business
Eligibility for Non-local Google+ pages: Must be linked to a website
Another easy ways in which all you have to do is to linked your website to your G+ page. This can be done during the process of your page registration. But for a little know-how, click here.
If you meet the above criteria, you'll see a notification at the top of your Google+ page or Profile. There are also some cases like mine in which I got the notification via my Gmail account. This is one thing I like about Google is that with just one email address, you can already access all Google products and services like G+, Gmail, Drive to name some. Anyway, going back, here is how you can get your custom URL through Google+:
1. Click Get a custom URL button to get started. Alternatively, from the "About" tab on your Profile, click the "Get" link located under your Google+ URL.
2. You'll see the URL(s) you've been approved for. If you see more than one option, select the one you like best. You may also be asked to add a few numbers or letters to make the custom URL unique to you.
3. Check the box to agree to the Terms of Service.
4. Click Change URL.
5. We may ask you to verify your account by your mobile phone number. If you need to do this, you'll see a box pop up asking you to do so.
a. Enter your mobile phone number.
b. Check the box to make it easier for people who have your phone number to find you on Google services.
c. Check your phone for the code that was sent to you.
d. Enter that code in the box.
e. Click Verify.
6. Once approved, this URL will be linked to your Google+ page or Profile, so be sure everything is exactly the way you want it. Once your URL has been approved, you can't request to change it. When you're certain, click Confirm.
What I just mentioned is the manual process of getting a custom URL from Google, however, like what I have had said, if you already meet the things needed for you to be able to get the custom URL, Google itself will take the liberty in suggesting or giving you the URL you needed.
By surprise, Google team will send you an email containing the custom URL you needed for you G+ page. Now all you have to do is to read everything and follow the instructions shown in order for your custom URL activate. I click the "Get URL".
After clicking the red button from your email, you will redirect to another page which re-confirm you about the change of URL for your page, but before doing so, you have to "check" the box to agree the Terms of Services, then hit "Change URL".
After doing so, the last pop out box will appear for the final confirmation of your custom URL. Click the "Confirm choice" to officially activate your G+ page.
Viola! That's it! As easy as that. +Pages Flipper has now an official custom URL.
Head over to google.com/+PagesFlipper and add us to your circle.
With almost the same process, I finally just got as well my custom URL for my personal account. Google team give me officially the url: google.com/+GemTadefa and with no hesitation, I activate it. So from the email, it will redirect you to another page to claim your custom url via mobile phone sms.
A sms will be sent to your mobile phones together with your Google verification code. It consist of 6 numbers and enter it in the blank provided. Click "Send Code" to confirm. That's it. You succesfully claimed your official Google custom URL.
Here's a tip: You can edit your URL to change its display format. For example, if your Google+ URL ends with +pagesflipper, you can use +PagesFlipper instead. But remember, you can only change the capitalization or accents/diacritics of the URL, not the URL itself.
